Cosmetics

Quick Start: Monetize your server.

Cosmetics are the fun extras: glowing drawings at your feet while you wait, a styled needle on your compass, particle trails behind you in a match, and celebrations when you get a kill or win.

  • The plugin ships a shelf of them in four groups, and every one is plain text in advanced/cosmetics.yml: turn looks on or off, change their colors, or add your own, without restarting.
  • Anyone with jmanhunt.admin owns every cosmetic from the start. Everyone else collects them by playing (match drops and level rewards), through rank permissions, or from an admin with the command below, then puts them on in the menu or from the toolbar.

Quick Start (5 minutes)

  1. Open the menu with /manhunt cosmetics, or click the breeze rod in the lobby toolbar.
  2. Pick a group, pick a look, click to wear it:
  3. The glowing entry is the one you have on; None (the empty firework star) takes it back off, and glows itself while you wear nothing.
  4. Your unlocked looks sit in the top tray, locked ones below the gap, each side sorted by rarity then name.
  5. Group and subcategory folders show your progress (1/30 unlocked); looks an admin disabled never count.
  6. Play matches. Kills, eliminations, wins, playtime, and distance walked can all drop cosmetics for you. A drop for something you already own turns into Vault money or bonus XP on its own.
  7. Gain levels. Your match score turns into XP after every match, and levels can hand out cosmetics and run commands (see Ranks).

Seeing too many effects? Slot 7 of the toolbar holds your own head: right-click it to pick whose cosmetics you see (ALL, LOBBY, MATCH, or OFF).

The four groups

Group Where it shows How many you wear
Lobby In the lobby world, seen by your lobby A floor, an aura, and wings all at once
Compass On your compass, wherever you hold it One per compass moment (refresh, in hand, analysis, bad signal)
Footsteps Behind you during a match One trail
Highlights On kills, deaths, wins, and MVP moments One per moment (kill, final kill, mourn, win, celebration)

Lobby looks are visible to players in the same lobby; match looks to players in the same match, up to the in-match-view-distance limit. Invisible or hidden players and spectators never show cosmetics.

Rarities

Every cosmetic has one of five rarities. Names, colors, and drop chances live in the rarities part of advanced/cosmetics.yml:

Rarity Color Drop weight
Common grayish white 42
Uncommon pale green 28
Rare pale navy blue 17
Epic purple 9
MYTHIC deep red with an orange tint 4

The numbers are relative: a higher number just means that rarity drops more often.

Unlocking in one paragraph

  • A cosmetic becomes yours to win when you hold its permission (jmanhunt.cosmetics.<group>..<name>), and unlocked when it is saved for you in the plugin database, when you hold that same permission with .owner on the end, when a rank you hold includes it, or when you are an admin.
  • Drops, level rewards, and /manhunt cosmetics unlock can only give out cosmetics that are yours to win. The full rules, including what happens when a permission is taken away again, live in Ranks.

For admins

  • One file runs everything: plugins/JManhunt/advanced/cosmetics.yml (rarities, group switches, rank grants, and all 125 looks). A bad value warns and turns off that one line; the file and the match keep working.
  • Experience, drops, and payouts live in plugins/JManhunt/advanced/match-drops.yml.
  • The texts sit in the cosmetics part of the language files; drop sounds sit in sounds.yml under cosmetics.drops.self.* (what you hear) and cosmetics.drops.others.* (what everyone else hears), and the level-up jingle under cosmetics.levelup.
  • settings.players.lounge.cosmetics.locked-visibility picks how locked looks render: SHOW (default), SHOW_LOCKED (a deep-red LOCKED tag with only the locked line and the how-to-obtain hint), or HIDE (locked looks never appear).
  • Placeholders: %jmanhunt_career_cosmetics_owned%, %jmanhunt_career_cosmetics_obtainable%, %jmanhunt_global_cosmetics_total%, plus career_xp, career_xp_level, and career_xp_to_next.
