Tracings

Quick Start: Monetize your server.

A tracing is a PNG drawing under plugins/JManhunt/advanced/cosmetics-tracings/ that a cosmetic samples its particles from, so wings, halos, and floor seals can be any shape you can draw.

  • Floor, aura, wings, trail (footsteps), compass hand, analysis, and the bad-signal ball take a tracing; anything without one keeps its built-in shape.
  • Tracings are global: any drawing works in any of those slots, and several looks can share one file.
  • For a worked example, see Creeper Wings in 10 Minutes.

How a PNG becomes particles

  • Background pixels are transparent ones plus white ones (pure white at any alpha, so semi-transparent white stays out too). Every other pixel is a candidate; only positions matter, the drawing colors never tint the particles.
  • The smallest rectangle covering all candidates becomes the drawing: its center is the origin and half its longest side scales everything into -1 to 1, image-up as +Y.
  • Drawings wider than 64 pixels quantize down to a 64 grid so memory stays flat.
  • Each interval the look picks amount distinct random points (it never repeats a point within one puff, and asking for more points than the drawing holds just draws the whole drawing).

Files and ids

  • The id is the path under cosmetics-tracings/, without the .png: lobby/wings/zenith-wings for cosmetics-tracings/lobby/wings/zenith-wings.png. Ids read lowercase with letters, digits, /, _, and -.
  • Shipped drawings copy into the data folder the first time a look uses them, so your edits there always win; a missing or unreadable file warns in the console and disables the looks that name it.

Where drawings anchor

tracing-roots in advanced/cosmetics.yml anchors each slot, feet-relative: x shifts right, z shifts backwards, both turning with the holder.

Root Default Sits
floor 0, 0.1, 0 At the feet, a nudge up
aura 0, 2.4, 0 Crowning the head
wings 0, 1.2, 0.2 Upper torso, toward the back
trail 0, 0.1, 0 At the feet, like floors
hand 0, 2.4, 0 Crowning the holder
analysis 0, 1.2, 0 At the chest
refresh 0, 1.2, 0 At the chest, bad signal only

Floor and trail drawings lie flat on the ground; everything else stands upright facing the holder's direction.

Leaf settings

  • tracing: the drawing id. Empty (the default) keeps the built-in shape.
  • offset: an "x, y, z" nudge added to the root, in the same holder frame. 0, 0, 0 if left out.
  • scale: drawing size multiplier, 0.25 to 4 (1 if left out). Wings reuse their required scale (0.5 to 3) instead.
  • spin (aura and hand only): turntable speed in degrees per second around the body, -360 to 360. 0 if left out, which disables it.
  • move-y and move-time (aura and hand only): float the drawing up by move-y blocks (-6 to 6, 0 if left out, which disables it) over move-time seconds (0.1 to 60, 1.5 if left out), then wrap back to the start.

amount and interval-seconds keep working as usual: how many points each puff draws, and how often. The compass needle line itself never traces (it has to point somewhere); on a needle look the tracing only replaces the bad-signal ball.
